| thalassemia | inherited defect in the ability to produce hemoglobin, usually seen in persons of Meitterranean background |
| hemochromatosis | excess iron deposits throughout the body |
| polycythemia vera | Polycythemia vera is an abnormal increase in blood cells (primarily red blood cells) resulting from excess production by the bone marrow. |
