Color Terms

How do you percieve white? When wave lengths are reflected back to your eye
How do you percieve black? When no light is reflected back to your eye
What is hue? Color, itself. (ex. purple, red, blue, yellow)
What are the primary colors? Red, blue, yellow
What are the secondary colors? Violet, green, orange
What are the tertiary colors? Red-violet, red-orange, blue-green, blue-violet, yellow-orange, yellow-green
What is a saturated color? Colors that do not have any white or black in them. (ex. all colors on wheel)
What three groups make up the color wheel? Primary, secondary, tertiary
What is a tint? A saturated color mixed with white
What are three colors that are considered to be warm colors? red, orange, yellow
What are three colors that are considered to be cool colors? blue, green, violet
What are the five neutral colors? black, grey, white, brown, tan
What are the six types of color harmonies? monchromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic, split completmentary, neutral
What is a monochromatic color harmony? Created by using a tints and shades of only one color
What is an analougus color harmony? Created by using 3 or more colors that are next to eachother on the color wheel
What is a complementary color harmony? Created by using 2 colors directly across from eachother on the wheel
What is a split-complementary color harmony? Created by using any color and 2 colors next to that color's complementary
What is a triadic color harmony? Created by using 3 colors located within equal distance
What is a neutral color scheme? Created by using any combination of grays, blacks, tans, browns and whites
What is a shade? A satuarted color mixed with black
