what are four types of organic molecules? carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids
what does a carbohydrate contain? C6 H12 O6
what is another name for a monosacchride? a simple sugar
what is a disacchride composed of? two monosaccharides.
what is a starch? a polysaccharide.
what are lactose, maltose, and sucrose? they are dissacharides.
glucose + gluecose= ? maltose(barley)
lactose(milk) is... glucose + galactose
sucrose (sugar) is.... glucose + fructose
examples of polysaccharides starch, glycogen, cellulose
what are proteins made of? carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen
what is dehydration sysnthesis reaction called? condensation
what is condensation? the removal of water.
what happens during dehydration sysnthesis? monomers of organic compaunds join together by a chemical reaction to make polymers.
what is the reverse reaction of dehydration sysnthesis. the breaking up of polymers known as hydrolysis (dehydration).
what are examples of lipids? waxes, steroids, phospholipis, trigyceride
what are triglycerides contained of? made of 3 fatty acid chains and a gylcerol backbone
what are proteins made of? carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen
what are proteins made of? amino acids
how many different type of amino acids are there/ 20
how are they linked? by peptide bonds between the carboxyl group of one amino acid and the amino group of a second amino acid.
what is a polypeptide? a chain of amino acid.
what is 2 amino acids? a dipeptide
how many amino acids make a protein? 100 or more
what are phospholipids made of? made up of 2 fatty acid chains, a phospate group, and a charged fuctional group.
what is the main componate of a plasma membrane? phospholipids.
