Biosphere part of Earth in which life exists including land, water, and air or atmosphere
Conservation Protecting and preserving natural resources and the environment
Habitat Management the process of changing the natural community to encourage the increase in populations of certain species
Extinction A term that typically describes a species that no longer has any known living individuals.
Endangered Species A species whose population is so small that the species is at risk of extinction
Population A group of individuals that belong to the same species and live in the same area
Constraint A limitation or restriction on a design
Auditory Communication Sound that an animal makes for the purpose of sending a message to another individual
Visual Communication Form of communication between animals using their bodies, includes various forms of display
Adaptation A trait that helps an organism survive and reproduce
Renewable Resource A natural resource that can be replaced at the same rate it is consumed
Nonrenewable Resource a natural resource that cannot be replaced
Criteria standards by which something is judged
Maintain To continue; carry on; keep in existence
Availability the quality of being able to be used or obtained
Sustainability The ability to keep in existence or maintain
Alternative Energy energy derived from sources that do not use up natural resources or harm the environment
Biomass the total mass of organisms in a given area or volume; also a fuel made from plant material and animal waste
Fossil Fuel Coal, oil, natural gas, and other fuels that are made of ancient remains of plants and animals
Nuclear Fission A nuclear reaction in which a massive nucleus splits into smaller nuclei with the simultaneous release of energy; process that occurs in nuclear power plants
