Ecology The study of organisms and their environment
Ecosystems Relationships between many species living together in an environment
Biotic The living factors in an ecosystem eg) plants, animals, decomposing matter
Abiotic The non living factors in an ecosystem eg) sunlight, water, temperature
Population The number of organisms of a species eg) population of squirrels
Biodiversity How many different types of organisms in an area
Natural Ecosystems Ecosystem that was already there and looks after itself
Artificial Ecosystem Is made or looked after by humans (parks, farms)
Aquatic An ecosystem in water
Terrestrial An ecosystem on land
Producer An organism that uses photosynthesis to make food
Consumer An organism that eats other things
Herbivore An animal that only eats plants
Carnnivore An animal that feeds on other animals
Omnivore An animal that eats plants and other animals
Scavenger An animal that eats garbage or dead things
Decomposer An organism that breaks down things that can then be used as nutrients for the soil
Trophic Level Which level in the food chain is the thing at. Producers are the 1st trophic level Primary consumers are the 2nd trophic level
Top Carnivore The carnivore at the top of the food chain.
