amplitude The height of a wave from rest to crest or from rest to trough
crest The highest point of a wave.
energy The ability to do work. Waves carry energy from one location to another.
evidence Information that explains or supports a claim.
frequency The number of times something repeats within a fixed period such as number of cycles per second.
pattern Something that is repeated over and over.
reflection The return of waves from a surface.
trough The lowest point of a wave.
wave A disturbance that travels through space or matter transferring energy from one place to another.
wavelength The distance between two corresponding points on a wave.
electromagnetic radiation A form of energy that is all around us including radio waves visible light and X-rays.
medium Any substance that waves move through
opaque The property of blocking out all light. Light shining on an opaque object creates a shadow.
electromagnetic spectrum The range of electromagnetic radiation that is all around us such as radio waves visible light and X-rays.
light The form of energy or electromagnetic radiation that makes it possible to see things.
scientific inquiry process A process that scientists use to explore observations and answer questions.
visible spectrum The part of the electromagnetic spectrum that people can see. It contains red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet light.
refraction The bending of rays or waves as they pass from one medium to another.
translucent The property of allowing some light to pass through. You cannot see completely through a translucent object.
transparent The property of allowing almost all light to pass through. You can see through a transparent object.
