Paint problems/ final detailing

Wrinkling severe puckering of the film that appears like the skin of a prune
Metal dust damage “rail dust” occurs when metallica particles from industrial fallout settle onto the paint
Acid rain damage varies because it is chemical damage from industrial fall out
Minor acid rain damage produces shallow craters, dulling, fading and chalking that do not eat fully through the top coat
Major acid rain damage severe chemical etching that has eaten completely though the topcoat
Sand scratches too coarse scratches left in the paint or body filler
Final detailing locate and correct any defect that may cause customer complaints
Surface paint chips results from mechanical impact damage to the film
Surface protrusion dirt or another particle of paint or other debris sticking out of the film after refinishing
Dirt nib file can be used to remove any defect that is on or above the surface
Finesse sanding can be used to level the protrusion with the surrounding film
Rubbing compound generally contain coarser grit abrasives than polishes
Hand compound are oil based to provide lubrication
Machine compound water based to disperse the abrasive while using a power buffer
Edge masking taping over panel edges and body lines prior to machine buffing or polishing to protect from burn through
Burn through when the buffing pad removes too much paint on an edge, lip or body surface
Polishing using very fine compound to bring the paint surface up to full gloss
Orbital action polisher moves the polishing compound in a random manner to prevent swirl marks left from machine compounding.
