Panama Canal waterway that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. The Panama Canal shortcut greatly reduces the time for ships to travel between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Erie Canal Connected the great lakes system to the Hudson River, gave the western states direct access to the Atlantic Ocean without shipping goods downstream on the Mississippi to New Orleans.
Battle of San Jacinto historically significant because a small Texan military force defeated a larger and more experienced Mexican army which resulted in the ultimate independence of Texas from Mexico.
