Additive identity property When you add zero to any number, the number stays the same.
Algebra Using letters and symbols to solve problems and find patterns in math
Algebraic expression A math phrase with numbers, letters, and operations
Arithmetic sequence A list of numbers where each number is found by adding the same amount to the previous number.
Associative property When you add or multiply numbers, you can group them any way and the result stays the same.
Coefficient The number in front of a letter in an algebraic expression.
Commutative property You can add or multiply numbers in any order and get the same result
Constant A value that does not change.
Counter example An example that shows a statement is not always true.
Variable A letter used to represent a number
Distributive property You can multiply a number by a group of numbers added together by multiplying each number by the first number and then adding the results.
Equivalent expressions: Different algebraic expressions that have the same value for any given numbers
Factor A number or algebraic expression that divides another number or expression without leaving a remainder.
Factored form Writing an expression as a product of its factors.
Geometric sequence A sequence where each term is found by multiplying the previous term by a fixed number.
Like terms Terms in an algebraic expression that have the same variables and exponents.
Monomial An algebraic expression with only one term.
Multiplicative Identity Property The property that states that any number multiplied by one is the number itself
Multiplicative identity property of 0 The property that states that any number multiplied by zero is zero.
Sequence A list of numbers or objects following a pattern or rule.
Simplest form An algebraic expression with no unnecessary parts that can be simplified no further.
Simplify To make an algebraic expression easier to work with by combining like terms and removing unnecessary parts.
Term A part of an algebraic expression separated by + or - signs
