Deep Focus | Everything in the scene is in focus. // Purpose: Indicates that everything in the scene is important and allows action to play out in multiple planes. |
Shallow Focus | Only a portion of the frame is in focus; could be either the foreground or the background in focus. // Purpose: Highlights or isolates a subject; often suggests a character’s emotional state. |
Soft Focus | Nothing is completely in focus. // Purpose: Gives a “dream-like” effect or flashbacks. |
Rack Focus | Changes focus within the shot, focusing on different elements within the scene. // Purpose: Shifts the audiences’ attention to certain details in the same shot. |
Split Diopter Lens | Focuses on multiple planes, but not the entire scene. // Purpose: Contrasts the two subjects in focus. |
