What is the difference between anatomy and physiology? Anatomy is the study of the structure of the body, and physiology is the study of how these structures work together functionally in the body.
What are the levels of organization? Chemical level, organelle level, cellular level, tissue level, organ level, and system level.
Define ipsilateral and contralateral. Ipsilateral - "same side" Contralateral - "opposite side"
Define ventral. What is the counter for this directional term? Ventral - Toward the belly or anterior. Dorsal - Toward the back or posterior.
When referring to an organ what does basal and apical mean? Basal - refers to the base or the widest part of an organ. Apical - refers to the narrow tip of an organ.
What are the three major body planes? Sagittal, coronal, and transverse planes.
Which plane divides the body into anterior and posterior portions? Coronal plane or "frontal plane"
Which plane divides the body into left and right sides? Sagittal plane. If the sections are equivalent it is called the 'midsagittal section.'
Which major cavities compose the ventral cavity of the body? Thoracic cavity & abdominopelvic cavity.
What does the axial body region consist of? The head, neck, torso / trunk.
What does the appendicular body region consist of? Upper and lower extremities and their connections.
Define the body region. Cubital. Elbow.
Define the body region. Mental. Chin.
Define the body region. Olecranal. Back of elbow.
Define the body region. Sural. Calf.
What is an isotope? An element that contains the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons.
