Lunar Cycle
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Lunar Cycle | A 29.5 day cycle where the Moon revolves around the Earth. |
Waxing Crescent | A sliver of light is visible on the right side of the Moon. |
First Quarter | The right half of the Moon is illuminated (lit up). |
Waxing Gibbous | The right side of the Moon is almost completely illuminated (lit up). A sliver of darkness is on the left side of the Moon. |
Full Moon | The side of the Moon that we can see is completely illuminated (lit up). The Earth is between the Moon and the Sun. |
Waning Gibbous | The left side of the Moon is almost completely illuminated (lit up). A sliver of darkness is on the right side of the Moon. |
Third or Last Quarter | The left half of the Moon is illuminated (lit up). |
Waning Crescent | A sliver of light is visible on the left side of the Moon. |
New Moon | No part of the Moon is visible to people on Earth. The Moon is directly in between the Sun and Earth. |
