parliamentary democracy | citizens elect the legislature to represent their interests & pass laws on their behalf. These legislators elect the chief executive. This head of government is selected from among the members of the leading political party. |
presidential democracy | the citizens elect both the legislators and its chief executive. The head of government (and state) is directly accountable to the voters who put him/her in power. Ex: Mexico & Brazil |
