Apprehension n. fearful expectation of something
Articulate v. to clearly express in words
Artificial adj. something made; not occurring naturally
Assertion n. a strong declaration
Austere adj. extremely plain OR stern and forbidding OR relating to self-denial
Authenticity n. the quality of being real and true instead of fake and contrived
Avenue n. an intangible path or approach to something
Avid adj. actively interested in or enthusiastic about something
Basic adj. relating to the foundation or basis of something
Bear v. to have as a characteristic OR to have (a child) OR to bring forth OR to put up with
Benevolent adj. kind, generous
Bias n. a preconception that prevents objectivity
Bolster v. to support, strengthen, or fortify
Bittersweet adj. tinged with a feeling of sadness
Alliteration Repetition of initial consonant sounds
Allusion A reference to another work of literature, person, or event
Amplification The writer embellishes the sentence by adding more information to it in order to increase its worth and understandability.
Anagram Word play in which letters of a word or phrase are rearranged in such a way that a new word or phrase is formed, usually aimed at parodying, criticizing or praising its subject. Dormitory = Dirty room
Analogy Establishes a relationship based on similarities between two concepts or ideas. "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players…”
