Enlist | To get the hep or support of |
Inclement | Harsh and severe |
Position | The central idea the author supports in their argument |
Claim | A statement that supports a position |
Opposing view points | A position that supports the opposite of another position |
Evidence | Facts, statistic, and examples that show why a claim should be belived |
Reasoning | The process of showing how your connects to and supports your claim |
Counter Claim | An acknoledge of a concern of disagreement from those with opposing viewpoints |
Rebuttal | An authors dirsct response to an opposing viewpoint or claim |
Argument | A position of viewpoint along with the claims and evdence to support that position |
Relevant | Having to do with the matter being considered important and connected when writers use claims or evidence that is irrelevant or not relevant they weaken their argument |
Sufficient | Enough if writers dont provide sufficient evidence and reasoning |
Tracing an argument | Identifying and exploring how an argument is made in an essay |
Evaluate | To judge or calculate the quaity of something |
Rebut | To TRY to prove a statement, positio, or claim is wrong or false |
Refute | To prove a statement, positio, or claim is wrong or false |
Fallacy | A falseor misstaken belief or claim usally based on poor reasoning |
Ad homien attack | An attack on a person rather than their argument |
Emotional Appeal | Writers rely on 2 persuation to the reader's common sense and appealing to the readers emotions. When writers use emotional appeals they do not provide facts or information to convince the reader to belive them. |
