TermDefinition
Absorption the transfer of energy from a wave to a medium
Amplitude the distance between the resting point and highest crest
Barrier something that blocks the way; obstacle
Bend to turn or force something to become curved or angular (close to some sort of angle) from a straight position
Color what you see when light shines off an object
Color Filter a transparent material that blocks some colors and lets others through; used for color manipulation
Echo a repeated sound caused by reflection of audio on a surface
Electromagnetic Wave a form of energy that can travel through empty space
Frequency the number of times a wave repeats in an amount of time; measured in HERTZ
Lens a curved piece of glass/plastic designed to refract light in certain ways
Light Wave waves that come from a light source (e.g: visible light - ROYGBIV)
Matter anything that has mass or takes up space
Mechanical Wave waves that require a medium
Medium/Media material through which a wave travels (e.g: glass, water)
Mirror a reflecting surface
Path also known as trajectory; the path an object follows in space
Prism a piece of glass/transparent material that bends light, usually in a pyramid form
Propagate the way waves travel
Proportion changes in regard to other things
Ray the movement of light from its source to a surface/object
Ray Diagram a way to show how light travels, including when it reaches a surface
Reflection waves bouncing off of a medium
Refraction/Refracted the bending of waves due to speed change
Sound Wave a vibration/wave that travels through all matter and can be heard
Transmit to cause light, heat, sound, etc. to pass through a medium
Transparent allows light to pass through (can be restricted for filters)
Visible Light Spectrum the portion of colors in the electromagnetic spectrum that humans can see
Wave any disturbance that transfers energy from point A to point B

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
