| To look over your shoulder | to be anxious and have the feeling that somebody is going to do something unpleasant or harmful to you |
| up to no good | doing something wrong or dishonest |
| to get away with murder | to do whatever you want without being stopped or punished |
| to give sb the benefit of the doubt | to accept that somebody has told the truth because you cannot prove that they have not |
| to catch sb red-handed | to catch somebody in the act of doing something wrong or committing a crime |
| A partner in crime | a person who regularly helps someone else to plan a crime |
| to get off slightly | to be punished or treated in a way that is less severe than you deserve |
| to lay down the law | to tell somebody with force what they should or should not do |
| under the counter | sold secretly and sometimes illegally |
| over the counter | goods, especially medicines that can be bought without a prescription |
