Integers | The set of whole numbers and their opposites |
Whole Numbers | A set of numbers that only include positive counting numbers and zero |
Rational Numbers | Any number that can be expressed as a ratio of two integers (as a fraction a/b). |
Repeating Decimal | A decimal in which one or more of the digits repeat infinitely |
Terminating Decimal | A decimal number that comes to an end; does not repeat |
Negative Numbers | Numbers that are less than zero |
Positive Numbers | Numbers that are greater than zero |
Absolute Value | A number’s distance from zero on the number line |
Opposite | Two numbers that are equal distance from zero but on opposite sides of the number line |
Coefficient | The number that is multiplied by the variable in an algebraic expression (3a) |
Inequality | A mathematical sentence that shows the relationship between quantities that are not equivalent |

Constant of Proportionality | The constant value (often written k) relating amounts that rise or fall uniformly together. k = y/x |
