Jamestown colony The Jamestown colony, Americas first permanent English colony, was founded in Virginia in 1607. It was sponsored by the Virginia company of London.
Plimoth colony Plymouth colony was an English colony from 1620 to 1691. It was also known as the new Plymouth Plymouth bay colony. It was founded by pilgrims and separatists.
Proclamation of 1763 The act that was passed by England in 1763 that forbid the colonists from moving into the good western farmland in the Ohio river valley, for fear that the colonists would get attacked by Native Americans; the colonist were furious with the act.
Roanoke colony An English colony that disappeared. No one knows why, but historians have assumptions. It is known today as North Carolina.
John Smith He was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. He was a soldier in adventure, who took control of Jamestown, by making sure everyone was saying “ He that will not work shall not eat”; a slave, and a sea captain; John Smith was captured by
Powhatan A Native American tribe that lived near Jamestown; their chief was Wahun Soncock; Pocahontas, the daughter of Wahunsonacock, is said to have rescued John Smith from execution; relations with a Jamestown were shaky at best.
John Rolfe Who is the first person to cultivate tobacco in Virginia. We had the colony plant and harvest, smuggled tobacco, which became a cash crop and was sold to Europe. He married Pocahontas.
Separatists People that were unhappy with the church. Sometimes I would build their own church. They practice their faith freely in the Netherlands, but they wanted entire community based on the spiritual beliefs.
Puritans People who wished to “ purify the Church of England”; started the Massachusetts bay colony in 1630; wanted to read the church of England of Catholic practices; desired as a holy Commonwealth, a city on a Hill.

French and Indian war War was between French and British. It took place from 1754 to 1760.
Great awakening What is a period of Great throughout the colonies in the 1730 and 1740s. This revival in besides a personal spiritual experience and relationship with God.
Jonathan Edwards Jonathan Edwards, preach the gospel of New England for close to 10 years. Explain that salvation was a gift of God, and cannot be obtained by human works.
George Whitefield George W. Was a British preacher who moved to the American colonies. Many of his conversations with people lead to revivals.
Tobacco Save the Jamestown colony money. The leaves are dry, ground it up, and smoked on. It made the colony successful. Grows naturally in the Americas.
