Term | Definition |
---|---|
Air Pressure | The weight of the atmosphere pushing down on any given surface. |
Troposphere | The 1st layer of the atmosphere, contains most of the overall mass in the atmosphere. This is were all weather happens. |
Ozone | A form of oxygen that blocks some of the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun |
Barometer | A tool that is used to measure air pressure using numbers. |
Altitude | How high or low an object is from the earth's surface. |
Stratosphere | This layer contains the ozone layer and is the layer were most commercial planes fly |
Isobar | A line going across a map that shows if the air pressure is high or low in a general area. |
Wind | The movement of air. |
Climate | Average weather in an area over a long period of time. |
Mesosphere | This is the coldest layer of the atmosphere, This layer also burns up meteoroids as they enter the mesosphere |
Radiation | The transfer of heat through open space |
Coriolis Effect | The earth is constantly moving which causes wind patters to curve. |
Weather | The day-to-day state of the atmosphere |
Thermosphere | Hottest layer of the atmosphere because this is where the sun hits first. It contains a layer of charged atoms called the ionosphere |
Conduction | The transfer of heat through objects that are making direct contact. |
Atmosphere | Earth's atmosphere is the blanket of gasses that surrounds and protects us. |
Exosphere | The exosphere is that last layer of the atmosphere and is very thin, and does not have a specific outer limit. |
Convection | The transfer of heat through the movement of fluids. |
