QUERYKEY
Two (logarithmic) scales for acidity. pH and pOH.
The resulting products of a strong acid-base reaction. Salt and Water.
What does an Arrhenius ACID increase? The number of H+ ions in an aqueous solution.
What does an Arrhenius BASE increase? The number of OH- ions in an aqueous solution.
What is the formula for hydroxide? OH-
What is a Brønsted-Lowry ACID? Any substance that DONATES H+ ions.
What is a Brønsted-Lowry BASE? Any substance that ACCEPTS H+ ions.
What is the history of the Brønsted-Lowry theory? Created by Nicolaus Brønsted and Thomas Martin Lowry in 1923.
What is the history of the Arrhenius theory? Created by Svante August Arrhenius around 1884.
What is the history of the Lewis theory? Created by Gilbert Lewis in 1923.
What is a Lewis ACID? An electron pair acceptor.
What is a Lewis BASE? An electron pair donor.
What is a Solution? A mixture of a solvent and a solute. Ex: Saltwater.
What formula can you use to relate dilutions? (Think Molarity) M1 * V1 = M2 * V2
What is dissolution? The process of a solute dissolving in a solvent.
What factors affect the rate at which something dissolves? Temperature, Surface Area, and Stirring.
What is a homogeneous mixture? The same throughout.
What is a heterogeneous mixture? NOT the same throughout, (Uneven)
What is an electrolyte? Any substance that dissolves to form free ions, making the solution conductive.
Are Colloids and Suspensions homogeneous or heterogeneous? They are heterogeneous.
What is the formula for molarity? M = moles of solute/liters of solution
What is the formula for mole fraction? X = moles of solute/moles of solute and solvent combined
What is the formula for molality? m = moles of solute/1 kilogram of solvent
What is the formula for mass percent? mass % = (mass of solute/mass of solution) * 100
What is the formula for volume percent? volume % = (volume of solute/volume of solution) * 100
What is the formula for parts per million? ppm = (mass of solute/mass of solution )* 10^6
What are the colligative properties? Vapor Pressure, Boiling Point, and Freezing Point.
What affects the colligative properties? The amount of solute in a solution (or concentration).
What "formula" is used to describe a single displacement reaction? AB + C --> AC + B
What "formula" is used to describe a double displacement reaction? AB + CD --> AD + CB
What does a complete combustion reaction look like? (Molecule Here) + O2 --> H20 + CO2
What do synthesis reactions look like? A + B --> AB
What do decomposition reactions look like? AB --> A + B

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
