What are the 2 types of metabolism? Catabolic -break down complex organic molecules into simpler ones. Exergonic: produce more energy then consumed Anabolic - combine simple molecules to form the body's complex structural functional components. Endergonic: consume more energy than produced
What is ATP and what does it contain? Adenosine Triphosphate. Contains ribose, adenine and a chain of 3 phosphate groups
What is Avogardo's number? 1 mole = 6.022 x 10^23
What is the formula for number of particles? N = n x Na
What is the formula for molar mass? m = n x M
What is a solution? A homogenous mixture of 2 or more substances
What are the two parts of a solution? Solvent - majority component Solute - minority component
Define Solubility The amount of a compound (g) that will dissolve in a certain amount of solvent
What are the 3 types of solutions? Saturated, unsaturated and supersaturated
Define Miscible 2 liquids mixing without separating into 2 phases
Immiscible 2 liquids that do not mix, separate into 2 phases
What is solution concentration? a measure of how much solute is dissolved in a solution
What are the 3 ways to calculate concentration? Molarity, percent concentration, ppm/ppb
