What does the number at the top of the element box represent? Atomic number or number of protons
Are atoms electrically positive, neutral, or negative? Electrically neutral
What is (A)? Mass number
Where can the mass number be found on the periodic table? Nowhere, it has to be calculated
What does element notation look like? A over Z next to X
What is (X)? The elements symbol
What is an ion? An ion is a particle where the # of electrons is unequal to the # of protons
Are electrons and protons unequal in an ion or atom? Ion
What is an ion called when its more positive? Cation
What is an ion called when its more negative? Anion
What stays the same number in every element? Protons
What is an isotope? When an atom has different # of neutrons or mass # as the original element
What is atomic mass? A weighted average mass of the isotopes in a natural occurring sample
