Properties of Waves Vocaubular Terms and Definitions.By.(Shritan Soma).
Term. | Definitions. |
---|---|
Wave. | A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another. |
Amplitude. | An Amplitude is a measure of how far the particles in the medium move away from their normal rest position. |
Wavelength. | The wavelength is the disturbance from any point on a wave to an identical point on the next wave. |
Wave period. | The wave period is the time required for one cycle of a wave. |
Frequency. | The frequency of a wave tells how many cycles occur in an amount of time usually 1 second and frequency is expressed by hertz (Hz). |
Hertz (Hz). | The Hertz abbreviation is (Hz) is expressed by frequency and one hertz is equal to one cycle per second. An example is if ten crests pass each second, the frequency is 10 Hz. |
Wave speed. | The speed at which a wave travels is called wave speed and it depends on the properties of the medium. |
