What was the central idea of Federalist 51? Checks & balances, separation of powers
What was the Connecticut Compromise? Created a bicameral legislature
What was the make up of the House of Representatives? (people, terms, etc) 435 people, 2 year terms, and based off of population
What are the qualifications of the House? At least 25 years old, U.S citizen for 7 years, and resident of state represented
What are the exclusive abilities of the House? --power to initiate revenue bills --impeach federal officials --elect president in the case of a tie
What is the make up of the Senate? (people, terms, etc) 100 people, 6 year terms, 2 per state
What are the qualifications of the Senate? At least 30 years old, U.S citizen for 9 years, resident of state
What are the exclusive abilities of the Senate? --confirm president's appointments --power to filibuster (stopped with a cloture)
What is the shared power of Congress? --pass legislation
What does the 17th amendment provide? direct election of senators
What are the requirements of the presidency? At least 35 years old, natural born citizen, and lived in the U.S for 14 years
Looking at Article II of the Constitution, what powers does the President have? --Judicial appointments
