Wave | any disturbance that transfers energy through matter or space |
Medium | the matter through which a wave can travel (can be solid, liquid, or gas) |
Transverse Wave | waves that travel in an up and down motion (example: light waves) |
Longitudinal Wave | waves that travel in back and forth in compressional pulses (example: sound waves) |
Mechanical Waves | waves that need a medium to travel (example: sounds waves & earthquake waves) |
Electromagnetic Waves | waves that do not need a medium to travel (example: light waves, x-rays, microwaves) |

Wavelength | distance between 2 crests OR 2 troughs |
