Nuclear Waste Leftover radioactive material produced by nuclear research, medical treatment, and other nuclear technology facilities

Aquifer A body of rock or sediment that stores groundwater and allows the flow of groundwater.
Aquitard A slab of surface at the bottom of an aquifer that does not allow water to go through
Sediments small, solid pieces of material that come from rocks or living things
Sedimentary Rock A type of rock that forms when particles from other rocks or the remains of plants and animals are pressed and cemented together
Model A representation of an object or event
Permeable full of holes; permeable to (able to absorb) liquids
Igneous Rock rock that forms when magma or lava cools and solidifies
earthquake a sudden release of energy in Earth's interior, which can cause shaking at the surface
lava Hot liquid rock ON Earth's surface
magma Hot, liquid rock BENEATH the earth's surface
Volcano an opening in Earth's surface through which lava, gas, and ash escape from a magma chamber underground
volcanic eruption when lava and gas are released from a volcano—sometimes explosively
Landslide the movement of rock, soil, and other earth materials down a slope
Magnitude (of earthquake) size of an earthquake
Natural hazard A natural event (for example an earthquake, volcanic eruption, landslides) that threatens people or has the potential to cause damage, destruction and death.
Nuclear waste contamination the process of nuclear waste leaking or spilling out and making the environment dangerous or unsafe for living things
