Analog and Digital

Analog and Digital Sensors

TermDefinition
Analog Sensors Line tracking/follower sensor, potentiometer, light sensor
Digital Sensors Bumper, Quadrature Encoder, Limit Switch, Green LED, Sonar/Ultrasonic range finder
What uses a photcell resistor? Light Sensor
What has a min and max? Potentiometer
Operates from 0-4095 All Analog sensors, the Line Tracker/Follower sensor, potentiometer, light sensor
what uses a variable resistor to output a current? Potentiometer
The value goes up as it gets darker Light Sensor
What sensor usually does not get to 4095? Light Sensor due to radiation
Measures contrast or brightness Line Tracker/Follower
Measures specific areas, using depth and polarized lens Line Tracker/Follower
What are both touch sensors? Bumper and Limit switch
Both read 1 when pressed and 0 not pressed Bumper and Limit Switch
How many slits are in a Quadrature Encoder? 90
What is a optical sensor that reads 1 when a slit passes? Quadrature Encoder
Reads 0 when there are no slit and this process continues and counts up Quadrature Encoder
2^15 AKA 32767 Quadrature Encoder
Turns an LED on and reads either 1 or 0 Green LED
Acts like a sensor to know where you are in the program Green LED
Above audible range for humans, therefore goes above 20-20,000 Hertz Sonar or Ultrasonic Range Finder
This operates to about 3 meters Ultrasonic Range finder
Operates at 40,000 Hertz Ultrasonic Range Finder
Difference between Motor and Servo Motor spins continuously while the servo spins at a certain angle. (Usually halfway 180 degrees)
Why can the limit switch arm be bent? Creates a more ideal hit area
What can both touch sensors do? Spring back to an 'open position'
What does the potentiometer measure? measures rotation of a shaft between 0 and 265 degrees
What does the potentiometer cortex measure? Values of 0-40965
What prevents the potentiometer from turning a full rotation? Internal mechanical stop
What does excess torque in the Potentiometer do? Against the internal mechanical stop will cause them to wear away
What happens when you switch the direction the potentiometer is facing? Switch the direction it counts, Counter clockwise- 0 to 4095 and Clockwise is 4095-0
What units does the cortex resolution in the Ultrasonic Range finder reads? inches, cm, mm
Distance value for the Ultrasonic Range Finder 0-648cm
What does the Ultrasonic Range Finder base distance calculations from? sound, soft objects absorb while sharp objects deflects
What does the Ultrasonic Range Finder read? inches, cm, raw, mm

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
