GLOMERULAR CAPSULES aka BOWMAN'S CAPSULES
Glomerular Capsules located in the cortex
RENAL MEDULLA appearence striated appearence because of pyramids
striated appearence of pyramids due to: straight tubules & blood vessels
BASES refers to the broad base of pyramid on cortex side
APICES refers to point of pyramid pointing toward center
RENAL PAPILLAE is aka apices
collecting ducts & LOOPS OF HENLE loc. in medulla
RENAL PELVIS is at inner edge of medulla, connect to ureter
MAJOR CALYCES-division of pelvis, there are 2 or 3
MINOR CALYCES-a subdivision of major calyces
Minor Calyces enclose the : papillae of pyramids
What do minor calyces do: collect urine
lateral means away from midline of body
perietal means pertaining to the walls of a cavity
URETERS are extensions: of pelvis of each kidney
Ureters enter bladder at: superior lateral angle
Do ureters have valves: NO
Ureters respond to bladder: pressure since they pass under the bladder
Pressure build up in bladder prevents: backflow during urination
Principal job of ureters: take urine from pelvis to bladder
Hydrostatic pressure and gravity contribute: to urine movement
Peristaltic waves pass: from kidney to bladder
Rate of Peristaltic waves is: 1 to 5/minute, dep on amt of urine
Ureter has 3 tissue layers: MUCOSA, MUSCULARIS & FIBROUS COAT
The musosa what layer/has? inner layer/has transitional epithelium
TRANSITIONAL EPITHELIUM is a: mucous membrane that helps protect against acidic pH
MUSCULARIS muscles are: inner layer longitudinal & outer layer circular muscles
Proximal third (of muscularis) also has: an outer longitudinal layer
Functional of the muscularis: PERISTALSIS
FIBROUS COAT provides external protection & anchors ureters in place
URINARY BLADDER -desc: a hollow muscular organ
Urinary bladder is loc in pelvic cavity: posterior to the SYMPHYSIS PUBIS
Bladder-loc in Male: anterior to rectum
Bladder-loc in Female: anterior to the vagina
