base (of a power) the base of a power is the repeated factor
common factors factors that are shared by two or more numbers
common multiples multiples that are shared by two or more numbers
exponent indicates the number of times the base is used as a factor
factor pair a set of two nonzero factors whose product results in a definite number
factor tree a diagram used to find the factors of a composite number
greatest common factor (GCF) the greatest common factor shared by two or more numbers
least common multiple (LCM) the least of the common multiples shared by two or more numbers
order of operations the order in which to perform operations when evaluating expressions with more than one operation
numerical expression an expression that contains only numbers and operations
perfect square the square of a whole number
power a product of repeated factors
prime factorization writing a composite number as a product of its prime factors
evaluate find the value of a numerical expression
