Multiplying Whole Numbers

associative property of multiplication while multiplying three numbers, regardless of the way the numbers are grouped, the end result will always be the same, for example: (2X3)X4 has the same answer as (3X4)X2
commutative property of multiplication changing the order of factors does not change the product, for ecample: 2X3 is the same as 3X2
distributive property of multiplication multiplying the sum of two or more addends by a number produces the same result as when each addend is multiplied individually by the number and the products are added together, for example: 2X(3+5) = 2x3 + 2x5
factors numbers which you can multiply together to get another number, for example in 6x7=42, the factors are 6 and 7
product the answer to a multiplication problem, for example in 6x7=42, the product is 42
array a way of arranging things in rows and columns
area model a rectangular diagram used in mathematics to solve multiplication problems, in which the factors getting multiplied define the length and width of a rectangle
standard algorithm a set of steps taken to solve a math problem
equation a mathematical sentence that has two equal sides separated by an equal sign
perfect square when you multiply a number by itself, for example; 12X12
