Potential Energy, Forms, & Relationships
Term | Definition |

Potential energy | Energy that is stored in an obect due to its position. |
Mass | The amount of matter in an object measured in grams. |
Height | The distance between the base (bottom) of an object to it top. |
Gravity | The force of attraction between two objects. |
Mechanical energy | The energy that is possed by an object due to its motion and its position. |
Elastic potential energy | The energy of stretched "pull apart" or compressed "push together " objects such as a rubber band or spring. |
Gravitational potential energy | The energy that depends on the position of an object and gravity. |
Magnetic potential energy | The energy stored in magnet due to the exertion of a force on each other. |
Chemical energy | A form of potential energy that is stored in bonds between atoms. |
Stationary object | An object that is not moving. |
Joules | A unit of energy. |
Proportional | Corresponding in size and a comparsion between two variables or numbers |
