Chapter 2 Vocab
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Vector | a quantity with direction and magnitude |
Initial Point | where the vector starts |
Terminal Point | where the vector ends |
Translation | a transformation along a vector such that the segment joining a point and its image has the same length as the vector and is parallel to the vector |
Perpendicular Lines | lines that intersect at right angles |
Perpendicular Bisector | a line segment that is perpendicular to another segment at the segment's midpoint |
Reflection | a mirror image w/ p that is mapped across line L from its preimage p |
Rotation | a transformation around point p =center of rotation |
Center of rotation | the point that does not move during rotation |
Angle of rotation | all angels with vertex p formed by a point and its image have the same measure |
Symmetry | if a rigid motion exists that maps the figure onto itself |
Line of Symmetry | if a reflection maps the figure onto itself |
Rotational Symmetry | symmetry that occurs if you can take the image, rotate it, and place it onto itself |
Angle of Rotation symmetry | greater than 0 degrees but less than or equal to 180 degrees, is the smallest angle of rotation that maps the figure onto itself |
