AP Lab-Articulations

QuestionAnswer
Articulations joints
Two categories of joints: 1. Functional 2. Sutural
Synarthrosis No movement
Amphiarthrosis Little movement
Diarthrosis Freely Moveable
Different options of structural joints: bony, fibrous, cartilinagous, synovial
Synarthrosis-bony-? Synostosis
Synarthrosis-fibrous-? 1. suture 2. gomphosis- binds teeth to bony socket in mandible
Synarthrosis-cartilagous-? Synchondrosis-ridged cartilage bridge
Ampiarthrosis-fibrous-? Syndesmosis- connected by ligamentgs (tibia and fibula)
Ampiarthrosis-cartilaginous-? Symphysis- connected by fibrocartilage (pubic bones)
Diarthrosis-? Synovial
What four things have to be present to make a synovial joint? 1. Synovial fluid/cavity 2. Joint capsule 3. Synovial membrane 4. Articular cartilage: smoother surface/little friction
Gliding joint - synovial joint - nonaxial - intercarpals
Hinge joint - synovial joint - monaxial - elbow, knee
Pivot joint - synovial joint - monaxial - proximal radioulnar joint
Condylar joint - synovial joint - biaxial - radiocarpal joint
Saddle joint - synovial - biaxial - first carpometacarpal joint
Ball and socket joint - synovial - triaxial - shoulder, hip
Flexion/extension decreasing angle/increasing angle
Abduction/adduction movement away from midline/towards midline
Supination/pronation anatomical position/posterior facing
Lateral flextion moving head from side to side
Depression/elevation moth down/mouth up
Retraction/protraction Moving head towards neck/away from neck
Opposition bringing thumb to pinky
Dorsiflexion/plantar flexion angle decreased in ankle/angle decreased
Eversion/inversion moving ankle away from midline/towards midline
Lateral rotation/medial rotation moving shoulder joint into anatomical position/away from anatomical

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
