Circle

Circle Terminology

TermDefinition
Circle A set of all points equidistant from the center.
A circle has ___________ degrees. 360
A circle is named by its ___________________. Center
Chord Is a line segment with 2 endpoints on the circle.
Diameter Is the longest chord of a circle.
Radius Is a line segment from the center to the edge of the circle. It is half of the diameter.
Semicircle Is half of circle.
Arc Is a curbed portion of the circumference.
Circumference The distance around a circle or any curved geometrical shape.
Area The space enclosed by the boundary of a figure.
Minor Arc Is an arc that measures less than 180 degrees.
Major Arc Is an arc that measures more than 180 degrees.
Half Circle Has an arc that measures exactly 180 degrees.
Central Angle Is an angle that is formed by 2 radii of the circle. The vertex is at the center of the circle and the 2 sides are radii.
Inscribed Angle Is an angle that is formed by 2 chords of the circle. The vertex is on the circle.
Central Angle Measure Is equal to the measure of the arc that it intercepts.
Inscribed Angle Measure Is equal to half of the measure of the arc that it intercepts.
