Whats 1 problem of sea travel? Ships could not navigate properly meaning that they would usually end up far from their destination
Who is ptolemy? He is a roman writer .
whos is a cartographer? someone who draws maps
Whats a portolan chart? its a map that labeled harbours and coastlines in precise . also records information like currents , tides or depth
Whats a quadrant and astrolobe? it was used to determine the ships latitude , (distance from the equator)
Whats a compass this is an instrument used to identfy if ur going north , south ,east or west.
whats a log and line? this measured a ships speed in knots
whats a line and weight? this measured the depth of the water
Whats a caravel? its a ship design . a large and sturdy ship designed for long voyages and to sail in winds
whats a lateen sail this allowed ships to move easily in thw wind and to sail in bays and along coasts
what is a carvel built hull these are planks fitted edge to edge more like overlapping
what is a rudder? this made the carvel easier to steer
whats a castle? its at the back of the deck it improved the deck quarters and served as a defensible area incase of an attack
whats Mutinty This is where sailors start rebelling against their captain
