How did Saul change his name to Paul? (5) 1. Saul was blinded by a light 2. a voice asks Saul why he persecutes them 3. Saul is led to Damascus on Jesus' orders 4. Ananias heal Saul reluctantly because of his past cruelty 5. Saul is baptized and changes his name to Paul
Why did Saul choose Paul as his name? Because it was the Jewish equivalent of his name
When did Saul die? 64 C.E.
What did Saul do? travelled for 15+ years to spread the word of Jesus on a missionary journey
What hardships did Saul face? (4) - severely flogged - thrown into prison - being homeless - starvation
How did Saul/Paul die? He was executed by Emperor Nero for his faith, but stuck loyal to it.
What did Paul teach? (2) - Death, resurrection and Lordship of Jesus Christ - faith in Jesus guarantees a share in his life
Who did the Romans persecute? The Jews and the Christians
Why did the Romans persecute them? (3) - the Jews and Christians believed there was only one god . Romans prohibited worshipping other gods - Many rites were performed in secret - accusations of incest
What happened to Polycarp? - he was brutally killed for his faith - he stood by Christianity even when given a chance to live
What happened to Perpetua and Felicity? - they were Christians who were given a chance to recant - they died martyrs

What was the Great schism? - separation of Rome into two different churches (Catholic & Orthodox) - it resulted in centuries of conflicts
How did the Great Schism start? When the Eastern and Western division were unable to solve their differences
