QuestionAnswer
to locate an image in a plane mirror by the method of no parallax set up the apparatus as shown. the object pin is placed in front of the mirror. the search pin is adjusted until it coincides with the image of the object pin in the mirror (i.e no parallax between object and image pin). distances u and v the same
demonstrate refraction using ray box, shine light onto the side of a semi-circular glass block. light bends as it leaves the glass block. light passing from glass to air is refracted
demonstrate total internal reflection shine light from ray box to the side of a semi-circular glass block. slowly increase the angle of incidence until the refracted ray runs along the glass/air boundary. any further increase to the angle of incidence will cause light to be reflected back
TIR continued into the glass block. conclusion: TIR occurs when angle of incidence exceeds critical angle
experiment: measurement of refractive index of a liquid 1. fill a beaker to the top with water. 2. place a plane mirror on the top of the container as shown. 3. place a pin in the bottom of the container. 4. adjust the height of the pin in the cork until there is no parallax between its image in the mirror and
exp contd the image of the pin in the water. 5. measure the distance from the pin to the back of the mirror using a metre stick: this is the apparent depth 6. measure the depth of liquid in the container. this is the real depth 7. repeat different sized beakers

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
