Which organs comprise the central nervous system? The brain and spinal cord
What are the two divisions of he peripheral nervous system (PNS), and when do they function? The sympathetic nervous system functions when the body is under stress, resulting in fight-or-flight syndrome. The parasympathetic nervous system functions when teh sympathetic nervous system is not active and is sometimes referred to as the rigest-and-dest system.
What is an anesthetic A medication that decreases the body's sensitivity to pain or tough
What is dopamine? A hormonal neurotransmitter released by the brain that is involved in various functions (attention, memory/learning, emotional arousal, rewarding sensations_
What is the function of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)? Helps cushion the rain and spinal cord and spinal cord and protects them from injury.
What is dementia? Slow, progressive deterioration of the brain affecting everyday activities (memory, thinking, alertness, reasoning.)
What is parkinson's disease (P)? A progressive, degenerative central nervous system disorder characterized by constant muscle spasms and shakiness.
Which condition can occur if dopamine levels are too high? Schizophrenia
Which conditions can occur if serotonin (5-HT) levels are to low? Depression and anxiety
Which class of medication acts by preventing the breakdown of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine? Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
