What is the difference between afferent neurons and efferent neurons? Afferent are sensory and transmit impulses towards spinal cord/brain. Efferent are motor and transmit signals away from the brain.
What are the functions of acetylcholine as a transmitter? memory, learning, attention, arousal and involuntary muscle movement
Which type of glia cells are responsible for phagocytosis in the CNS? Microglia cells
What is the function of the pineal gland? Produced melatonin (time keeping hormone)
How many ventricles are in the brain and what is their function? There are 4 and they produce cerebral spinal fluid.
Which pool of sensory neurons conduct impulses from the PNS to the CNS? Primary sensory neurons
What is the order of spinal nerve categories? Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal
Which cranial nerve is responsible for sense of smell? CN I - Olfactory nerve
Is CN IX (glossopharyngeal) sensory, motor, or both? Both. It is mixed
What is the babinski sign/reflex? Touching the sole of the foot causes the big toe to move upwards and towards the top of the foot.
Which two types of cholinergic receptors does Acetylcholine bind to? nicotinic receptors and muscarine receptors
What are the three bones of the middle ear from lateral to medial? Malleus, incus, and stapes.
What are prostaglandins? A unique group of lipid hormone that serve many functions.
