United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) an independent, nonprofit scientific organization that decides quality standards for prescription drugs, OTC drugs, and dietary supplements
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Responsible for enforcing the laws regarding potentially addictive controlled substances, both illegal and legal.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Works to ensure the safety and health of US workers by establishing and enforcing workplace regulations and standards; provides training, outreach, and education; and encourages continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Has authority over business practices like direct-to-consumer drug advertising
American Association of Pharmacy Technicians (AAPT) Provides leadership and represents the interests of its members to the public as well as healthcare organizations
National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) the only professional organization that represents all 50 state boards of pharmacy
Pharmacy Technician Educators Council (PTEC) An organization of instructors dedicated to developing and sharing pharmacy technician program curricula, educational materials, and instructional materials, advocating for greater education, training, certification, and responsibilities for technicians across the states.
American Pharmacists Association (APhA) establishes professional practice standards and addresses the problem of varying qualities and recipes of imported drugs
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices.
Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) of the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Provides oversight of the Medicare program, the Federal portion of the Medicaid program, and related quality assurance activities
The Joint Commission (TJC) a nongovernmental, nonprofit professional healthcare association that sets high standards of care for hospitals and other healthcare institutions
National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA) An advocacy organization that updates its members on relevant news and provides online continuing education courses.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Works to fight infectious diseases to stop epidemics (regional widespread contagious diseases) and pandemics (globally widespread epidemics), sexually transmitted diseases, food-borne diseases, and other contagious illnesses.
