EC2 Instance Storage

QuestionAnswer
What is an EBS Volume? Elastic block store - Network drive (not physical) - Data persists after termination - Latency/limited performance - Mount to 1 instance at a time - Multiple can be attached to 1 instance - AZ bound - Billed for all capacity
What is an AMI? Amazon Machine Image - Customisation of EC2 instance software, config, OS, monitoring - Faster boot/config time - Region-bound, but can be copied - Can be public (from AWS), private, or from a third party vendor in the marketplace
What is EC2 Image Builder? - Automates image management processes - Creation, maintenance, validation, sharing and deployment of Linux or Windows images for use on AWS and on-prem - Can be run on schedule or on prompts/triggers - Free service, pay only for resources involved
What is EC2 Instance Store? - High performance - Hardware drive (physical) - No persistence of data post-termination, so only suitable for temporary content - Backups and replication are the responsibility of the user
What is EFS? Elastic File System - Managed network file system - Mounts to many EC2 instances at once to create shared network file system - Linux compatible - Multi-AZ - High availability and scalability - Expensive, but pay-per-use - 92% lower cost in EFS-IA
What is the Shared Responsibility Model? AWS - Infrastructure - Replication for EBS volumes/EFS drives - Hardware User - Backup/snapshots - Data encryption - Risks of data persistence
What is FSx? Third party high performance file systems - Lustre (for high performance computing) - Windows File Server (for Windows) - NetApp ONTAP

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
