What are the functions of the respiratory system? Air Distribution; Gas Exchange; Blood pH balance/buffer system; Olfaction (Smell); Speech
What are the four processes of respiration? Pulmonary ventilation, external respiration, transport, and internal respiration
What is pulmonary ventilation? The movement of air into and out of the lungs; Breathing
What is external respiration? The exchange of O2 and CO2 between the lungs and your blood
What two elements are transported through respiration? O2 and CO2 is transported in blood
What is internal respiration? Exchange of O2 and CO2 between systemic blood vessels and tissues
What are the major organs of the upper respiratory? Nose and nasal cavities, paranasal sinuses, and pharynx
What are the major organs of the lower respiratory? Larynx, trachea, bronchi and branches, and lungs and alveoli
What are the two regions of the nose? External nares (nostrils) and Internal nasal cavity
List the functions of the nose.
