Isotonic | same tension or tone consists of concentric and eccentric contractions |
concentric | muscle produces tension while shortening |
eccentric | muscle produces tension while lengthening |
Isometric | same length; muscle produces tension with out changing length |
Isokenetic | muscle move through a range of motions at a constant angular speed. equipment needed. eg cybex machine |
Prime movers | The predominate muscle used in a particular exercise |
Agonist | All muscles responsible for a movement; prime movers, synergists |
Antagonist | oppose the prime movers and therefor relax to allow contraction |
Synergists | They assist the movement indirectly; stabilising joint etc |
Skeletal muscle is made up of fibers called? | Myofibrils |
