Sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) Diseases that are transmitted from person to person through sexual contact (either touch or fluids)
Ovaries Produce ovules (egg cells) and estrogen
Falopian tubes Connect the ovaries with the uterus
Uterus Organ that carries the baby around (womb)
Cervix Connects uterus with vagina
Testicles Secretes testosterone and produces sperm
Epididymis Long coiled tube where sperm cells are matured and stored
Vas deferens Long muscular tube that transports sperm cells from the epididymis
Prostate secretes fluid that nourishes and protects sperm

Syphilis Bacteria Small ulcers, inflammation in lymph nodes, rashes especially in hands and feet, but usually no pain
Genital herpes Virus Painful ulcers similar to chickenpox
Gonorrhea Bacteria Most common disease in young adults Doesn’t provoke symptoms, but can cause pain while urinating, secretions, inflammatory pelvic disease in women and problems during pregnancy or cause infertility and permanent damage
HIV/AIDS virus/syndrome Destroys white blood cells and prevents the body from being able to fight diseases and infections
HPV Virus Causes genital warts, major cause of cervical cancer in women, and penis and prostate cancer in men
Candidiasis (especially affects immunocompromised people) Fungus present naturally in the body, especially in the mouth and vagina Symptoms in women: burning sensation, redness and irritation, abnormal vaginal fluid, pain while urinating or having sex, itchiness Symptoms in men: rash, itchiness in penis
Trichomoniasis (parasite) Can take anywhere from 5-28 days from infection to show up Vaginitis with green/yellowish secretions, vaginal odor, pain while urinating, and itchiness in or around the vagina. In men: white secretions through the penis and trouble urinating/ejaculating
Chlamydia Bacteria, people can get re-infected
Chlamydia symptoms in women Abnormal vagina fluid with strong odor, sometimes bleeding, pain while urinating/having sex, if symptoms remain, may cause abdominal pain, nausea, and fever
Chlamydia symptoms in men Secretions through the penis (sometimes with bleeding), irritation while urinating, itchiness in the opening of the penis, and pain and inflammation in the testes
