What did the Treaty of Versailles say about Germany? What did Germany have to do as a result of the treaty? It said that Germany had to take responsibility for WWI. Germany also had to pay reparations for the war, give up some of its land, and reduce its military.
After World War I, the economic situation in Germany led to the rise of what corrupt leader? It led to the rise of Adolf Hitler.
Which two countries were involved in the Cold War? The United States and Russia were involved.
Why did the Soviet Union fall after the Cold War? Too much money had been invested into the Cold War (military and weapons), space race, and communist government. Most people were poor and wanted freedom.
Explain the purpose and workings of the European Union. t made trade easier among member nations by removing trade barriers. It promotes peace between the countries by allowing them to work together. It ensures the safety of member nations. I also has a common currency that makes trade easier.
Explain the Russian Revolution. After the withdrawal from WWI, poverty, starvation, and unequal treatment of citizens led to the Russian Revolution. Czar Nicholas II was overthrown, Lenin came into power, and created the communist government in Russia.

What is an entrepreneur? An entrepreneur is someone who risks his own money to start a business.
What types of economy do Russia and Germany have today? They both have a mixed market economy.
How are the governments of Mexico and Brazil similar? Citizens can vote for elected officials in an election.

If a country discovered a new oil field, how would this affect their economy? It would increase their trade. They’d be able to export the natural resource to make more money.

Compare and contrast the European Union and NAFTA. Both create free trade zones among the nations. They make trade easier by removing barriers. The EU has a common currency, but North American countries do not.
Why did the African slave trade grow between European nations? Europeans wanted the slaves to work on plantations because they were immune to diseases and they could work in the hot climate.
Where would you most likely find higher literacy rates among groups of people? People living in large cities tend to have higher literacy rates because of access to education
What change did the Cuban Revolution bring? Fidel Castro overthrew the Cuban government and established a communist government. He took away people’s freedoms and rights but he did improve healthcare and education.
Describe our relationship with Cuba. The US and Cuba do not trade because the US placed an embargo on Cuba in 1967. They are taking small steps toward improving relations. They have reopened their embassies.
Describe the role of the citizens in an autocratic government. Citizens have little to no influence on the government.
How are leaders chosen in a presidential democracy verses a parliamentary democracy? In a presidential democracy, citizens directly elect the president. In a parliamentary democracy, people elect the parliament, who in turn selects the prime minister.
What is currency exchange and why is it important? It allows countries with different forms of currency to trade with each other.
What is the Nazi Propaganda and what did it lead to? Nazi propaganda was a campaign of misinformation that created an atmosphere of hate and violence toward the Jews, lead to the Holocaust and WWII.
What is the reunification of Germany? It removed the wall between East and West Germany, joined them as one country with a democratic government, and began the end of the Cold War.
What is the Iron Curtain? It was the dividing line between communist countries and the rest of Europe. The countries “behind the curtain” were communist.
