what is an organic compound? COVALENT compound containing Carbon atoms
what is a monosaccharide? simple sugar that contains 3-10 C atoms
what are isomers? compounds with same chemical formula but different arrangement of atoms, which leads to different chemical properties
what is a disaccharide? compound made when 2 monosaccharides bond together
what is a polysaccharide? compound made when 3+ bond together
what is a saturated fat? lipid made from FA that have no double bonds between C atoms
what is an unsaturated fat? lipid made from FA that have atleast one double bond between C atoms
list the bond in order of their strength : S-S, O=O, N---N triple-strongest, double-middle, single-weakest
example of a monosacchairde. is it sweet? glucose, fructose. yes they are sweet
example of a disaccharide. is it sweet? sucrose, lactose. yes they are sweet
example of a polysacchairde. is it sweet? starch (flour, potato). no they are not sweet
what are macronutrients and how are they broken up? chemicals essential to nutrition in large amounts (carbs, proteins, fats)
what does the primary structure of a protein look like? H2N-oooooooooooooo-COOH (chains connected by S)
what is the backbone of DNA composed of? deoxyribose (sugar) and phosphate
how are base pairs in DNA bonded together? hydrogen bonds
what base pairs bond with one another? adenine bonds with thymine; cytosine bonds with guanine
