Chapter 9 Quiz

8th : chp. 9 quiz review

QuestionAnswer
Why do we use the SI system in science? 1.only use one major unit 2. uses only prefixes based on powers of 10 (no negative values)
What are physical properties? non-chemical characteristic of a substance (shape, color, density, luster/shininess, hardness, brittleness, malleability, ductility, tensile/compressive/sheer strength, elasticity, electrical & thermal conductivity, MP, BP)
What is the relationship between volume and pressure of a gas? inverse proportion (as pressure increases, volume decreases)
What is the relationship between volume and temperature of a gas? directly proportional (as temp increases, volume increases)
What is the density equation and how to use it D=m/V ***know how to use, look back on examples***
What is evaporation? phase transition that occurs between the liquid phase and the gas phase, while the temperature of the liquid is below the boiling point.
What is sublimation? phase transition in which a substance transitions from a solid to a gas without going through the liquid phase
What are chemical properties? properties that describes the chemical reactions a substance will or will not engage in (ability to combust, the ability to explode, the ability to oxidize, chemical stability, and toxicity
What are the freezing and boiling points for water in degrees Fahrenheit & Celsius. freezes at 32°F or 0°C. boils at 212°F or 100°C.
What is plasma? ionized gas. Since plasmas are made of ions, they conduct electricity
Pressure is caused by..... molecular collisions
How does fluid flow? What will it flow towards? a difference in pressure must be present. will flow toward lower pressure

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
