Term | Definition |

Side Effects | Result of drug therapy or other therapy that is unrelated to or an extension of its intended effect. Usually applies to an undesirable effect of treatment. |
Contraindication | Factor that makes the use of a drug undesirable or dangerous. |
Anaphylaxis | Extreme allergic reaction that can lead to respiratory distress, circulatory collapse, and death. |
Synergy | Phenomenon of two drugs acting together to produce an effect greater than either of the drugs alone. |
Potentiation | Increased potency created by two drugs working together. |
Antagonist | Substance that interferes with or opposes the action of a drug. |
Efficacy | Power to produce a specific result effectiveness (Difference between generic and brand name drugs) |
Generic | Nonproprietary name of a drug which is usually a simplified version of the chemical name and not capitalized. |
Tolerance | Chronic use of a drug resulting in loss of effectiveness |
Withdrawl | Results from abrupt cessation or reduction of a drug that has been used regularly. |
