7 Disease Types | 1. Infectious Disease 2. Degenerative Disease 3. Neoplasia 4. Immune Disorders 5. Metabolic Disorders 6. Hormonal Disorders 7. Mental and Emotional Disorders |
4 Signs Of Inflammation | 1. Heat 2. Pain 3. Redness 4. Swelling |
3 Responses To Disease | 1. Inflammation 2. Phagocytosis 3. Immunity |
Acute | Sudden, Quick Onset |
Benign | Not recurrent or malignant. Describing a tumor that does not spread to other tissues. |
Carcinoma | A malignant neoplasm composed of epithelial cells |
Chronic | Long Duration, Progressing Slowly |
Edema | Accumulation of fluid in the tissues, swelling |
Etiology | Cause Of A Disease |
Gram Stain | Lab Stain Test That Divides Bacteria Into Two Groups (Gram Positive and Gram Negative) |
Malignant | Growing worse, harmful, describing an invasive tumor that can spread (metastasize) to other tissues |
Metastasis | Spread from one part of the body to another, characteristic of cancer |
Necrosis | Death of tissue |
Neoplasia | An abnormal and uncontrolled growth of tissue |
Neoplasm | A tumor, or abnormal growth, which may be benign or malignant |
Phagocytosis | Ingestion of organisms, such as invading bacteria or small particles of waste material by a cell. The phagocyte cell destroys the ingested material. |
Prolapse | A dropping or downward displacement of an organ or part |
Pus | A product of inflammation consisting of fluid and white blood cells |
Sarcoma | Malignant neoplasm arising from connective tissue |
